Matthew 26:69-75 (Click here to read on YouVersion)
Even when Peter failed Jesus in a great way, the story for Peter wasn't over. We know that Peter, despite His sin and despite cursing Jesus' name, still became one of the foremost leaders of the early church. He is still honored and venerated as a Christian saint.
The lesson here is that, if you are in Christ, failure doesn't define you. Failure doesn't define your future. Yes, there are consequences to sin. And yes, conviction can lead you to deep sorrow, remorse, and bitter weeping. But once the weeping is over we still get back up and keep going.
Proverbs 24:16 says,
For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.
In other words, righteousness isn't determined by how much you fall. Righteousness is determined by your ability to keep getting back up.
If you're struggling with conviction or you know you've failed recently in some way take this post today as a Word from God for you. Don't quit. Keep going back to God when you fail. Keep getting back on the path of following Jesus, no matter how many wrong turns you have taken.
